Mind the temple, body the ascetic cloth,
bathe within the heart pilgrim-shrine.
One Sabad lives on my breath,
no longer entering birth-cycle. 1.
O’ My mother! Mind pierced by the Compassionate.
Who knows the pain of others?
I worry not about others. 1. Reflect.
O’ Unreachable! O’ Unperceivable! O’ Indescribable!
O’ Immeasurable, worry about me.
Totally pervading on land, water and sky,
Your Light is in each and every one. 2.
All teaching, knowing, understanding is Yours,
body-temple shade is Yours.
I know no other except You.
O’ My Sovereign! I forever sing and praise You. 3.
All beings, creatures in Your sanctuary.
All cares are Yours.
Nanak’s one prayer:
Whatever pleases You, that is good. 4.

Sabad is Infinite; we are very finite. This is our understanding at the moment, which was different yesterday and may evolve tomorrow, as we deepen our relationship with the Sabad. In this trans-creation, we have chosen to keep the repeating words in the Sabad same. We aspire to learn and retain the Divine attribute as used in the original Sabad and avoid terms like God or Lord.

The Nightingale & The Traveler: Love & Wisdom – Fragrance of Bhai Vir Singh

Wednesday Dec 05, 2018
Many have come into my life and have barely left a trace. Less than a handful have entered my cautious heart. These amazing beings have lifted my consciousness, enabling me to rise. It is as if fate had a hand in bringing us together. My life is richer because of them, I cherish their friendship.
And then there are relationships that defy time, space and logic. Such is my relationship with Bhai Vir Singh (1872-1957). I have never met him, yet there is a nearness so intense that I address him as “my Pita ji.” How did that happen? Well, it was through his writings. He enabled me to see Guru Nanak Sahib and I fell in love.
Pita ji now ebbs and flows in my consciousness. His writings open vistas within me, transporting me to another realm. What transpires while translating his works cannot be put into words. Some things are best left unsaid.
In translating his poem “The Nightingale and The Traveler,” I have taken many liberties. The purists will scream: “She has sinned. She must be excommunicated.” The lovers will say: “She has loved. We embrace her.”
I leave it in your hands to judge: Have I sinned or have I loved?

Rana Bhabor – The Fragrance of Bhai Vir Singh
Monday Oct 01, 2018
Monday Oct 01, 2018
Bhai Vir Singh (1872-1957) was once asked by an admirer, of the thousand or so tracts he had written, which one, in his opinion, was the best.
In an instant he replied, “Rana Bhabor.”
And I am not surprised. For the personality of Rana Uday Singh is similar to that of Bhai Vir Singh’s. Rana Bhabor is part of his book, Kalgidhar Chamatkar, but this story has also been published separately.
Rana Bhabor is a story of a small hill chieftain who came in contact with Guru Gobind Singh Sahib during the days of his struggle with the Hill Rajas. Although the story relates to the great love the Rana and his Rani had for the Guru, the way Bhai Vir Singh has shaped the personality of the Rana and the beauty of the dialogue between the Rana and his Rani is quite astounding.
