The next sakhi takes us to Mecca in Saudi Arabia. Around the year 1525, Guru ji and Bhai Mardana arrived in Mecca. Guru ji’s interaction with the qazi (a Muslim scholar) was very shaky at first because the qazi thought  Guru ji was disrespectful. The qazi felt that Guru ji should not be pointing his feet towards the Kaa’ba. 
To the qazi, Vahiguru existed only in Kaa’ba. Guru ji tuned into this and made it a point to educate the qazi that Vahiguru is all around us. Vahiguru created everything and exists within every heart. It’s important to see what the meaning of such truly is.

What would happen if You showed Your face like the full moon?
What would happen if You came tonight, my Moon?
 
The whole world is imprisoned by Your tresses.
What would happen if You untangled Your tresses for a moment?
 
There is darkness in the world without You.
What would happen if You rose like the Sun?
 
Come for a moment and reside in my eyes forever.
What would happen if You resided in my eyes and stole my heart?
 
This mole, which dotes on Your countenance,
What would, for God’s sake, happen if You sold it for cash?
 
You are in my eyes, and I search for You everywhere.

The next sakhi in our series takes us to the town of Puri, in India. The Mayor of the town invited Guru ji and Bhai Mardana to listen to Aarti, a special prayer performed by the priests. Guru ji happily accepted. The next day, at the prayer service, Guru ji angered the priests by not following them in prayer. 
This beautiful sakhi highlights compassion to people and their different needs, desires, and choices. Vahiguru has no shape or form; Vahiguru is everywhere around us.

This is a continuation of the Persian Voice of the Guru's featuring the Sikh Research Institutes Researcher Asha Marie Kaur.
 
In this transcreation, the original Gurmukhi is followed by an English transcription to guide the Sabad’s (Divine Word) pronunciation in its original form. The Persian recorded in the Guru Granth Sahib, and standard Persian often have different pronunciations of words with the same meaning. The Perso-Arabic transcription is written with spellings that allow a modern-day Persian reader to understand the text.
This Sabad brings to the mind a call for humility, grounding, and reframing. We must stop at this moment and bring ourselves down to a level where we can self-reflect and reframe our headspace. Opening ourselves up and attuning to the hak hukam will give us the chance to let the shackles of human society go and feel truly free and seen.
